Your Nature And Your Future

TUESDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2025

TOPIC: YOUR NATURE AND YOUR FUTURE

SCRIPTURE: throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your nature determines your future.

It has been established that a person’s nature can limit their future. There are certain things in people’s lives that are the reason why they cannot go beyond where they are in life.

When God told Abraham to come out of his people, He was telling Abraham in essence, to come out of his idolatrous culture and customs. At times, culture, the wrong culture can puncture the future.

For example, an angry man or woman, will never be able to keep a home. A person who has no control over money cannot work in a bank or occupy a position of trust with resources. Otherwise, he will squander everything and be sent to prison in a short time. A man who has no control over his body cannot work successfully as a teacher or administrator in a girls-only school. Can you imagine a chronic womanizer working as a principal in an all-girls’ school? All the parents will soon bundle him to prison.

I knew a man who was humiliated from work because of sexual harassment. This once big man became a shadow of himself because his nature limited his future.

Beloved, it is your nature that determines your future.

Look at Esau’s nature: his lack of control over his appetite cost him his birthright. Esau was a man of profanity and vanity, placing no value on destiny and eternal matters. Where is Esau today? The Edomites who were the descendants of Esau and twin brothers to the Israelites have disappeared. We still talk about Israel, but the Edomites are nowhere to be found because their father’s nature limited their future.

Many people could have been billionaires, but God said, “If I give this man even one billion Naira, he will go to hell. His riches will take him to hell. So, God chose to leave such people in poverty so they could make heaven, rather than empower them with wealth that will drive them to hell. After all, what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? What can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26).

Many people are praying, “Oh God, when will my change come?” and God is saying, “Wait until your nature changes.” Many of us don’t know ourselves until God shows us who we are.

Isaiah was an acclaimed prophet until he came into the Presence of the Lord. God revealed who Isaiah was to himself —that is, He revealed Isaiah’s nature to Isaiah himself. When this happened, Isaiah said, “Woe is me!” He had been the one proclaiming woes to others. But when he saw himself, he sent the woe back to himself. He could not fully see himself in the earlier chapters of his book, but in Chapter Six, when he saw the glory of the Lord, he saw the emptiness of himself (Isaiah 6:1-5).

Beloved, if there is anything God wants to achieve in us, it is to reveal to us any nature in us that is fighting against our future. Who you are now may be the enemy of who you are meant to be. It is when you come to the end of who you are that who you are meant to be will emerge. And to reach where you must reach in life, there are habits to discard and habits to embrace. Maybe you spend too much time on your phone. Maybe you give yourself to watching negative, toxic materials. These negative habits must be discarded so you can fulfil destiny.

Remember this: Your nature determines your future
