Divine Direction
It all began in May 1996, prior to that time I had started experiencing a lot of unrest in my spirit concerning the next phase of my life and Destiny.
I was at a crossroad as to what next to do with my life. My wife and I had several attractive choices ahead of us.
1. To relocate to the prestigious university of London with my wife, who is also a Medical Doctor, to work and simultaneously advance our medical profession.
2. To take up two other attractive medical appointments outside the country.
3. Or to keep our jobs in the two different hospitals where my wife and I worked, we even lived in one of the 3-bedroom flats in one of the Hospital staff quarters.
As attractive and promising as the future seemed, I was overcome by an unusual level of restlessness in the spirit. And so, on the 28th of May, 1996, I journeyed to a mountainous area in the outskirts of Jos, to be alone with the Master of the Universe, who has the master plan of my life. After three days of fasting, I came down from the mountain with a clear vision of exactly what I was to do with my life.
Divine Mandate
The Lord told me to put aside my Medical Certificate and “go to the city of Abuja and start a gospel outreach that will be characterized with a heavy Presence of God to heal, save and deliver people; a church that will restore human destiny and dignity.” On getting home, my young wife, who was nursing our few-months old first baby had also taken out time to fast from six-to-six, and pray about our future. She had advised herself to pray so that God would speak to her as well in order not to be taken by surprise. I asked her to read out her parchment of what she received first and to the glory of God it was all a confirmation of the divine instructions I had received, thus confirming the call.
Inaugural Missionary Journey
The next week, I embarked on what we called the first missionary journey to Abuja, as instructed by God. I did not know anyone in that town and had no idea of where to sleep on arrival. As I alighted at the Zone 5 Area, I decided to carry out a prophetic action and removed my shoe as I crossed the road to the other side. As I crossed the road, a brother whom I had known from the university sighted me and called me by name. He asked what I was doing there and went on to say that this town really needed the kind of Ministry God had placed on me. He asked where I was going to lodge and I told him I had a contact of someone in Gwagwalada. He then informed me that Gwagwalada was a one-and-a-half-hour drive from where we were. He then invited me to come put up with him somewhere in Asokoro. The accommodation was one large room where he and some of his relations stayed.
Several people would find a free space behind a chair on the floor and various locations all around the room and sleep. Like everyone else, I had to find a corner to sleep. I led all of them to Christ and ministered to them after which I returned to Jos in the first week of June. My wife and I returned the next month which was July, still at the same lodging place, for the first outreach meeting and it was held at Agura Hotel banquet hall. My ever-sub-missive and highly supportive wife, Dr. Becky Enenche and I both left our jobs, relatives, Medical career and every plan we had made for our lives and moved to Abuja, a land where we knew nobody. But like the Biblical Abraham, obeying the Lord was paramount to us, and so, we proceeded despite many external discouragements, to commence the instruction given to us. We lived in a one room in a Boys quarter in zone 7 in Abuja for 13 months. Sharing toilets, bathroom and kitchen with the domestic staff of the main house occupants.
Establishment of Dunamis
My wife and I left the service that day and felt led to stop over at the Sheraton Hotel we had left for 3 weeks. Amazingly, we met some colleagues from the university; one of whom offered us a land in Area 1 for temporary use. We later bought the same land and its adjoining land after 2 years of use. The Church moved into the property, behind the old federal secretariat, in Area 1 the next Sunday where we initially used canopies for six weeks before having a permanent roof over our heads. We started building a structure there. We worshipped in the structure of a 700-seater Auditorium on our 1st Anniversary with overflows outside. This 1st building was expanded two times to the current structure of over a 10,000-seater auditorium. The church continued to grow and expand in size over nearly 22 years, even with multiple services and overflow facilities. To address the need for more space, especially during Worship and Wonder Nights, we embarked on a search for a new location.
The Glory Dome
In a night's revelation, God showed me a specific land with certain landmarks on the airport road, but there was initial difficulty in locating it. About 1,000 to 2,000 acres of land were gotten at Keffi, Nasarawa state axis, but God reminded me of where he showed me in that revelation, saying, "One square inch within His plan is far more important and superior to a thousand hectares anywhere.” I then sent for a young man who was a property agent and prayed for him and anointed him with oil and sent him to look for the land with the description of the landmarks with a clear description as I was shown in that revelation.
The property agent successfully found a massive piece of land available for purchase on the airport road. That was how the journey to the airport road started. The Glory Dome came as a result of prayers for the next phase of the Ministry and out of concern for space for worshippers, especially during the Worship and Wonder Nights. A place that could seat thousands of people was needed. The construction of the Glory Dome commenced on this land, a remarkable architectural and engineering feat, completed without incurring debt or relying on financial institutions, rather, banks were begging us to delay certain withdrawals.
Dunamis International Gospel Centre has an unusual drive for evangelism, crusades, and outreaches; we believe that every ministry should be about salvation, winning souls, and turning multitudes to God through the finished work of Jesus Christ. This informed the formation of the Gospel Power Team in the early days of the Ministry, And then followed by a focus on open-air services at prominent locations such as Eagle Square, the old parade ground, and the national stadium. Our crusades, both within and outside the country, have proven to be impactful, leading to the salvation of hundreds of thousands of souls and witnessing powerful acts of healing, deliverance, and liberation through God's Presence.
