What is Discipline?

SATURDAY, 26 APRIL 2025

TOPIC: WHAT IS DISCIPLINE?

SCRIPTURE: “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1 Corinthians 9:27

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To be disciplined is to be hard on yourself so life can be easy on you.

Discipline has been identified as a pathway to destiny fulfillment. People who lack discipline cannot accomplish anything significant in life. To embrace discipline is to embrace a colourful and impactful destiny.

Now, what is discipline?

  1. Discipline is being hard on yourself so life can be easy on you                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          To be disciplined is to be hard on yourself so life can be easy on you. It is to be hard on yourself so you can fulfill your destiny. You must be strict with yourself. The flesh craves comfort, convenience, and complacency, but destiny never be fulfilled if we continue to gratify the flesh.
  1. Discipline is saying “No” to the legitimate so that the profitable can say “Yes” to you.
Paul said, All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient. To be disciplined means the ability to say, “No” to legitimate things so that the profitable things can say, “Yes” to you. There are many things that are legal but not profitable.

For example, if you slept for 12 hours every day, no one would charge you to court for it because it is legal. But is it profitable? No.

If you ate every time food was available, would you be judged? If you ate every single hour, no one would charge you to court for it either, but is it profitable? No.

You can spend hours on your phone chatting or replying text messages, but if that is what dominates your time and life, then that is a lack of discipline. No one will send you to prison for doing that, but you will find yourself with regrets at the end of your life for wasting a whole lifetime.

REMEMBER THIS: To be disciplined is to be hard on yourself so life can be easy on you.

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Make up your mind to live a life of discipline.
  2. Refuse a life of comfort, convenience, and complacency.

PRAYER: Father, like Apostle Paul, I receive the grace to live a life of discipline. I reject a life of convenience, complacency and compromise, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
