Understanding Upright Living

TUESDAY 23RD DECEMBER 2025

TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING UPRIGHT LIVING

SCRIPTURE: For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.  Genesis 37:7

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To be upright is to end right up.

In our anchor Scripture, Joseph had a dream that was not just a definition of the vision of his future, but a detailed description of his character.

When you examine the life of Joseph further, you will discover that it was not only his sheaf that stood upright; his entire life was upright—his motives, his, words, his conscience, his character and conduct, all stood upright.

Beloved, if you are to experience the Joseph kind of destiny, you must be a man or woman who stands upright—your conscience, motives, conduct, and words must be upright.

Many people today cannot be trusted based on their words. They are one thing in church and another thing altogether outside the church.

Beloved, if you want to end right up, you must live upright. Many people today want to be right up, but they are not upright.

Now, what is uprightness?

  1. Uprightness is existence with a clean conscience that is alive (Acts 24:16). There are people whose conscience is not clean. Their conscience is dead, and not alive. They kill, steal and rape without qualms because their conscience is not alive.
  2. Uprightness refers to avoiding the path of crookedness or questionable actions in life (Job 1:1). That is, you are not involved in anything that is not straight or tidy.
  3. Uprightness entails living by God’s standards and principles for living (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Joseph lived by God’s standards and principles for living.

It is important to always ask yourself, “How does God want me to live as a single young man or woman? How does God want me to live as a married person? How does God want me to live as a student, or as a child? What is expected of me in class? What is expected of me in financial dealings and in dealings with other people?”

Beloved, you don’t stand out without standards. If you must stand out in life, there are standards to follow.

REMEMBER THIS: To be upright is to end right up.

ASSIGNMENT(S)

  1. Make up your mind to be upright in your dealings with God, and with others.
  2. Determine to be a person of standards.
  3. Ask God to give you the grace to maintain a character of uprightness.

PRAYER: Father, give me the grace to maintain upright character. Let my life bring You joy and not pain. Help me to live as You want me to live, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
