TOPIC: THE VALUE OF INTIMACY WITH GOD

SCRIPTURE: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 1:26   

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A critical purpose of man’s creation is fellowship and intimacy with God.

Our anchor scripture makes it clear that man was created in the Image and Likeness of God. One major reason why God created man to look like Himself is so that man can walk with Him in fellowship and intimacy. A critical purpose of man’s creation is fellowship and intimacy with God. That is why the worst thing that happened in the Garden of Eden was the separation of man from his Maker.

One of the worst accounts in the Bible was recorded in Genesis 3:23, and it says, Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Some translation renders the phrase, “sent him forth” as ‘banished him.’

That can be considered one of the worst disasters that happened to mankind. But the good news is that Jesus Christ came to reconcile man back to God in intimacy.

Now, what is the value of intimacy with God?

1. The place of intimacy with God is the place of spiritual power and glory. This is confirmed in Psalm 63:1-2:  O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
2. The place of intimacy with God is the place of hearing from God. It is a place of direction from God (Genesis 3:8).

In the beginning, Adam and Eve experienced consistent visitation and hearing from God by virtue of their intimacy with God.

3. The place of intimacy with God is the place of transformation of life.

Beloved, to look at God is to look like Him.  2 Corinthians 3:18 corroborates this: But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

It is not possible to have intimacy with God and remain the same. Your life must be transformed.  You come to a point where people don’t recognise you anymore.

What then is the way of intimacy with God?

1. It is the way of the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost (Romans 5:5). The more of God you love, the more you want to camp around Him.
2. It is the way of spiritual fire intensity generated by the Holy Ghost (2Timothy 1:6-7).

The more you pray in the Holy Ghost, the more it generates the fire to know more about God.

iii. It is the way of hunger and desperation.

This can be activated in seasons of fasting and prayer (Psalm 42:1-2; Psalm 63:1-2).

Beloved, your spiritual hunger and desperation for God can be heightened in a season of fasting, where you are looking for nothing, and no one, but God and the best of Him.

Remember this: A critical purpose of man’s creation is fellowship and intimacy with God.

1. Make up your mind to desperately hunger for God above your necessary food
2. Decide to pray consistently abundantly in the spirit

PRAYER: Father, You alone are my God; early will I seek You. In a dry and thirsty land, where there is no water. Help me to see Your Power and Glory as in the sanctuary, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
