TOPIC: PRIDE – THE ROOT CAUSE OF FAILURE AND DEFEAT

SCRIPTURE: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north. Isaiah 14:12-13

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Every temptation unto pride is a temptation unto defeat.

A major cause of failure and defeat in life is the lifestyle of pride. Pride always leads to failure defeat. Anyone who is proud is set for failure and defeat.

When you talk about people who failed or suffered irrecoverable defeat in life as a result of pride, Lucifer is a prime example. Lucifer was the principal cherub who covered the throne of God, but his heart was lifted up with pride (Ezekiel 28:12-17). He desired to ascend to heaven and exalt his throne above the stars of God (Isaiah 14:12-14). When pride was found in him, he was defeated and driven from heaven. He lost his position of dominion, authority, and influence, and became Satan, the prince of hell. Pride led to the fall of Lucifer.

Beloved, understand this: Every temptation unto pride is a temptation unto failure and defeat. Every temptation unto pride is a temptation unto the loss of spiritual authority and dominion. Never succumb to the temptation of pride and arrogance. If God is going to elevate you, it will be through humility.

1 Peter 5:6 says, Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Those who humble themselves are exalted by God, while those who walk in pride are brought down in shame. Nebuchadnezzar’s story is a confirmation of this fact. He was a proud king whose pride led to the loss of his humanity and dominion. But when he humbled himself before God, his human nature and kingly dominion were restored (Daniel 4:33-37).

Beloved, if you don’t want to fail or suffer humiliating defeat in the battles of life, reject the lifestyle of pride because whenever pride is present, failure and defeat are inevitable.

Remember this: Every temptation unto pride is a temptation unto defeat.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Consciously resist the spirit of pride and arrogance.
2. Maintain the lifestyle of humility.

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for Your Word to me today. I receive the grace to remain humble before You and before men, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
