TOPIC: SPEAK RIGHTLY

SCRIPTURE: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  Proverbs 18:21 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What you speak can determine how well and how long you live.

Our anchor Scripture makes it abundantly clear that life and death are in the power of the tongue. It is possible for a person to destroy his life with the things he says. But the Scripture says, “The tongue of the wise is health”, which means the tongue of the wise brings him health (Proverbs 12:18).

Now, what is the meaning of that to you?

1. Disease and health, death and life are all products of the tongue. That is, someone can acquire a disease, become sick or become well based on what they say.
2. What you speak can determine how well and how long you live.
3. The tongue of the fool brings destruction and death, whereas the tongue of the wise brings wholeness and health.

Beloved, you must watch how you speak to remain healthy. Always declare health to your body.

I heard a story from Paul Youngicho about a woman who had what the doctors called Pyrexia of Unknown Origin (a fever whose cause is not known). She had a kind of high temperature, the cause of which could not be diagnosed.

One day, a Christian doctor engaged her in a conversation by the leading of the Spirit. He said to her, “Tell me the kind of things you say.” So, she said that anytime anyone told her things she did not like, she would tell the person, “Stop burning me up with your words.” Consequently, she began to burn with a high temperature, the source of which could not be found. But after she was corrected and stopped talking like that, the fever went down.

Some neurosurgeons did research and realized that there was something called the Broca speech area in the human brain. It is the brain’s centre responsible for speaking. They realized that the Broca speech area is the dominant centre of the brain and has overriding powers over other nerves of the body.  So, if someone says, “I am tired”, the signal from that speech will be translated into the nerves of the body, and it is telling the nerve that “This person wants to be tired, just ensure that you make every condition conducive for tiredness.”

So, the body will adjust itself to tiredness. And it is Scriptural because Numbers 14:28 says, Say unto them, As truly as I liveth, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.

Proverbs 18:21 corroborates this point: Death and life are in the power of the tongue… So, the tongue or the speech centre exerts significant control over the nerves of the body.

Beloved, please don’t be in a hurry to talk whenever you are angry with anything. This is because statements that are made at the peak of negative emotions are likely to be highly regrettable. When the emotion is wrong, the confessions or pronouncements cannot be right.

REMEMBER THIS: What you speak can determine how well and how long you live.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

1. Always confess your expectation, not your experience or temptation.
2. Make up your mind to speak positively regardless of the circumstance.

PRAYER: Father, I receive deliverance from every wrong utterance I have made in the past that has the capacity to work against me today. Help me to speak positively irrespective of my situation, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
