WHO ARE YOU?

SCRIPTURE: When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? Matthew 16:11.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your reputation is what people think of you, but your character is who you are.

It is very important to know that your character is more important than your reputation. There is a difference between character and reputation. It is important to understand the difference in order to set our priorities right.

Now, what is the difference between your character and your reputation?

Your reputation is what people think of you, but your character is who you are.

So, it is possible to have a positive reputation with negative character. Your reputation is what people think of you; it is what people know you to be, while your character is who you really are.

A man may be smiling with everyone in his office, but maltreats his wife and children at home. He has a reputation of being an amiable personality in his place of work, whereas he is actually a wicked entity at home.

Reputation is what people consciously struggle to express or display, while character flows unconsciously and effortlessly. Your character flows. As a person of character, you may not be planning to tell the truth, but lies just can’t come out of you. It is like a bird that does not need a training to fly; an eagle does not need to go to a training school to fly. People struggle to achieve reputation, but character flows effortlessly.

The question is, what do people think about you? What do people say about your person or character? Do people give good or bad testimony of who you are? Are you like Esau who will forfeit a permanent asset for a temporal gain? Are you really the same person at home, in church and at your place of work? Who are you?

My counsel to you is, ensure that your greatest focus is in the development of your character. Develop who you really are, and then your reputation will take care of itself. What people think of you will take care of itself if who you really are is taken care of.

Remember this: Your reputation is what people think of you, but your character is who you are.
