SCRIPTURE: And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. 2 Kings 4:4.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God sets aside those who are full and satisfied.
The Book of Second Kings 4 gives us the account of a widow who lost her husband who was a prophet. Unfortunately, the man died in a state of indebtedness.
Now, after the death of this woman’s husband, the creditors came to take her two sons as bondmen, and she cried to Prophet Elisha for help. Elisha asked her what she had, and she said she had just a pot of oil. Elisha told her to borrow empty vessels and begin to pour the oil she had into them. When she did that, the vessels that were filled were set aside.
2 Kings 4:4 says,
“And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.”
I would like you to take note of the phrase,
“… and thou shalt set aside that which is full.”
This is very instructive!
This is God’s verdict on those who are full. God sets aside those who are full and satisfied in themselves. Those who are full cannot access God’s Word or the treasures of the Kingdom.
In Genesis 1, God created the earth when it was without form and void. The earth was empty and void, and that state attracted God to create it. Until you are empty, God cannot fill you. Being empty is key to being filled. But if you show that you are full, God sets you aside.
Today, there are many people who were once very hungry for God. Like David in Psalm 42, they once showed to God that they were empty and thirsty for Him, and God gave them access to His treasures; God began to fill them. But after a while, they became used to God, demonstrating that they were full. And consequently, God set them aside.
Beloved, my counsel is, refuse to be set aside by God. Demonstrate humility, hunger and emptiness before God always so He can continue to fill you. Remain permanently hungry before God. Never show premature contentment because to arrive too soon is to arrive too small.
Remember this: God sets aside those who are full and satisfied.
