SCRIPTURE: This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise. Isaiah 43:21
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The best you can become is not a replica of another person, but who and what God designed you to be in life.
Many times, in life, you see people who are swimming in great affluence and wealth. You see them driving flashy cars and wearing expensive dresses. They seem to have so much money, and the thought that usually comes to some people’s mind when they see such people is: “I want to be like this rich man so I can live the good life he is living.”
Beloved, more than being like them, your desire should be how to become what God wants you to be. Most times, you don’t know the full story behind the people you envy. If you knew, you may not envy them, let alone praying to be like them.
I once met a very flamboyant woman. This woman was very rich; she had a flashy car, and usually wore very costly royal dresses.
One day I got talking with her and she told me, “When people see me, they usually tell me that they envy me and even want to be like me. But I would tell many of them not to be like me. Many of them do not know that I am battling with cancer. Little did they also know that I am battling with death.”
Think about this: She usually wore long nice robes outwardly, but unknown to people, those robes were mere coverings for a cancerous affliction on her leg; it was a terminal condition.
Then she continued, “Pastor, from my experience, I learned not to struggle to be like people because you don’t know the whole story about people’s lives. You don’t know the details of their lives.”
Yes! That is true. You may see someone you greatly admire, even to a point of wanting to be like them, but you don’t know what they are battling with.
The lesson from this story is: don’t struggle to be like someone else regardless of their status in life; struggle to become what God wants you to be; struggle to become a reflection of Jesus Christ. The best you can become is not a replica of another person, but who and what God designed you to be in life.
Remember this: The best you can become is not a replica of another person, but who and what God designed you to be in life. It is to be like Christ.
