SCRIPTURE: Our father which art in heaven Hallowed be thy name. Matthew 6:9.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is when you thank well that you can ask well.
The Scripture makes it clear that praise is a form of prayer (Matthew 6:9). You cannot pray very well until you have praised God very well.
It is very important to know that prayer is not just a place for asking; it is also a place for thanking. It is when you thank well that you can ask well. If you notice the pattern of prayer given by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew Chapter Six, you would see that thanking precedes asking. He says;
‘Our father which art in heaven Hallowed be thy name’ it preceded the ‘thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth give us this day our daily bread.’ Matthew 6:9.
So, until you thank well, you can’t ask well. Until your thanks are acceptable, your request is not welcomed. There are many people who ask when they have not thanked and God is wondering what they are doing.
Now, what will thanksgiving achieve at the place of prayer? Look at this:
Appreciating God for what He did before is qualification for what He will do again.
Appreciating God for what God did before qualifies you for what He will do again.
Psalms 103:1-3 says;
Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
The Bible admonishes us not to forget the benefits of God. Appreciation for the past sets the pace for manifestation in the future.
In 1 Samuel 17:34-37, we saw how David was appreciating God for his deliverance from the lion and the bear, and as he appreciated God for that, God also delivered him from Goliath. Appreciation of what God did before is qualification for what He will do again.
Remember this: It is when you thank well that you can ask well.
1. Make praise and thanksgiving your lifestyle.
