SCRIPTURE: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4:6.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Pride has nothing to do with what someone has; there are very poor people who are also very proud.
Our anchor Scripture above confirms that God is attracted to the humble but resists the proud.
This shows that humility is a doorway to accessing the grace of God. Every grace available in God is accessible by humility. But when God notices the proud, He not only deprives them of His grace, but He also resists them. So, pride is a tragedy; pride brings disaster. If you doubt me, ask Lucifer.
Many people have been cast down from great heights in life because of pride. The Scripture reveals in Psalm 138:6 that God knows the proud from afar off. That is, when a proud person is coming from a distance, God can notice or sense them. And pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).
You see, most times, pride has nothing to do with what someone has; there are very poor people who are also very proud. This is a double tragedy! They are very poor, yet very proud. Instead of dealing with the challenge of poverty alone, they add the complication and tragedy of pride. That is a pathway to destruction.
There are proud beggars. When they see a rich man who is humble, they may say in their heart about the man, “Who do you think you are? I am sitting here hungry, and you are driving an expensive car. Get out of here with your nonsense money.”
There are also poor afflicted people who say, “I would rather die than let that man pray for me.” They are afflicted and need deliverance, but they are not humble enough to ask for prayer.
Pride and poverty give birth to a double tragedy. Resist pride! Overcome poverty!
Remember this: Pride has nothing to do with what someone has; there are very poor people who are also very proud.
