LIVE RIGHT TO LIVE LONG

SCRIPTURE: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What you do today can either prolong your life or cut your life short.

Something happened when I was in fifth year in the university as a student of Medicine. We met a young man during a ward round one day with terrible medical complications. This young man had three major conditions, and each of these conditions was enough to lead to death.

He had chronic liver disease of alcoholic origin; he also had constrictive pericarditis which was also traceable to alcoholism, and finally, he had pulmonary tuberculosis, also traceable to alcoholism. His liver, lung and heart were all affected.

The young man was just nineteen years old and was a student in a polytechnic. When I spoke with him, he told me how he had lived recklessly and wasted his life in a hurry. He could drink nineteen bottles of alcohol in one sitting. That was how he harvested these multiple organ afflictions.

I looked at him with so much pity and compassion in my heart, and led him to Christ. I told him, “You wasted your life in a hurry. You just finished yourself at this very young age.”
But my joy is that I led him to Jesus Christ.

After this, I travelled, and on my way back, I was told that he was taken to the theatre for a surgery because his heart was so badly affected, but he couldn’t make it.

Now, the professor of surgery wanted to carry out a surgery on him. The pericardium, which is the outer bag after the covering of the heart, into which the heart beats, got constricted, so, the heart had no allowance to beat. While the professor was trying to work that outer covering, the young man gave up right on the operation table.

I felt so terrible when I was told that he died. I was only consoled a little because he gave his life to Christ. He cut short his potential and everything he was meant to be. His sun got set at midday.

Beloved, see how this young man ended his life abruptly. What you do today can either prolong your life or cut your life short. Live right so you can live long.

The question is, what are you doing now that is capable of cutting your life short?
