How To Engage The Heart In Prayers

TOPIC: HOW TO ENGAGE THE HEART IN PRAYERS

SCRIPTURE: And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the Lord. Jeremiah 30:21.

THOUGHT: To engage the heart in prayer means to pray with both the mind and the body being in harmony with the heart. It has been established that the prayer that moves God is the one that engages the heart. When the heart is not engaged in praying, it becomes a noise without effect. Now, what does it mean to engage the heart in prayer?

1 ) Praying from the depth of the heart.

To engage the heart in prayer means to pray from the depth of one’s heart (Jeremiah 30:21). It is when prayer proceeds from the depth of heart, and not just from the lips. It is feeling the impact of prayer whenever you pray.

 2) Praying with the Mind and Body in Harmony with the Heart

To engage the heart in prayer means to pray with both the mind and the body being in harmony with the heart (Jeremiah 30:21).

There are people who pray mindlessly. They pray, but their mind is not in the prayer they offer. Your heart is engaged in praying when you pray with both your mind and your body being in harmony with your heart. This means, your mind and your body are controlled by your heart as your pray.

 3) Praying with Full Occupation of the heart.

To engage the heart in prayer means to pray with full occupation of the heart. As you pray, there is no space for any other thing to fill or occupy your heart. (Jeremiah 30:21).

This means, as you pray, you guard your heart. And if the heart is trying to stray, you pull it back.

For example, when you pray and you begin to think about money, food or other things, you consciously pull your mind to the subject of pray and occupy your heart with it.

Beloved, guard your heart with all diligence as you pray so you can pray with results.

Remember this: To engage the heart in prayer means to pray with both the mind and the body being in harmony with the heart.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Always ensure to pray from the depth of your heart. Pray with the full occupation of your heart.
2. When you mind strays while praying, pull it back to the subject of prayer.

PRAYER: Father, I ask that You deliver me from wondering hearts during prayer. I receive the grace to engage my heart fully in prayers, O LORD, in Jesus’ Name.
