Faithfulness In Another Man’s Business

Saturday 9th May 2026

TOPIC: FAITHFULNESS IN ANOTHER MAN’S BUSINESS

SCRIPTURE: This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten. That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night. Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

Genesis 31:38-40

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Until you are faithful in that which is another man’s, you are not licensed to have yours.

Our anchor Scripture reveals the account of how Jacob worked passionately for Laban. He laboured in hostile weather conditions, night and day. He worked diligently without supervision, yet the results were evident.

We live in a world today where people are so self-centered. Everyone does their own thing until the boss arrives, and they wake up as if they were working. In the absence of the employer, everyone would be doing things not related to their official assignments. But immediately the MD or CEO arrives, everyone would sit up, pretending to be serious. But who are they deceiving?

The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, Whatsoever a man sows that he shall also reap.

That is what is killing our government system today. One of our members in the Church who has worked in an international organisation was appointed commissioner in one of the states. She said the first time she arrived in one of their offices, she could not believe what was going on: people came to work whenever they wanted; there was noise everywhere, and you wouldn’t see anyone on their seat or working.

Imagine working in an international organisation where things work perfectly, and then you find yourself in that kind of system where everything is upside down. No wonder some nations are where they are today.

It is common to hear some people advise others: “Don’t take this government’s work on your head; it is not your father’s work.” So pathetic!

The government is paying your salary, yet it is not your father’s work. They are giving you leave allowances, yet it is not your father’s work. They pay your travel allowance when you travel, yet it is not your father’s work. That is not the right mentality to have.

Beloved, if you are engaged to make inputs into someone’s business, be faithful in discharging your duties. Until you are faithful in that which is another man’s, you are not licensed to have yours (Luke 16:12).

You saw how Jacob looked after Laban’s business as if it were his own. And at the end, the Blessing, with immeasurable wealth, travelled in his direction.

Beloved, working for someone as if you were working for yourself is a sure way to the Blessing of God.

REMEMBER THIS: Until you are faithful in that which is another man’s, you are not licensed to have yours.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

  1. Ask God for the grace to be diligent.
  2. Be faithful in discharging your duties in another man’s business.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your Word to me today. Help me to be faithful in discharging my duties in another man’s business. I receive the blessing that comes with faithfulness, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
