DELAYED EXPECTATION, A REASON FOR BITTERNESS

SCRIPTURE: Therefore I will refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. Job 7:11.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: One major root of bitterness is frustration from confrontations, temptations or delayed expectations.

In life, there are many reasons why people get bitter. One major root of bitterness is frustration from confrontations, temptations or delayed expectations.

Bitterness can arise when one has so many challenges, temptations and delayed expectations.

When you have delayed expectations, and you are also facing a lot of battles, you can get bitter against everyone and everything. There are people who talk against everything and everyone. To them, nobody is good, nothing is working, and everyone is bad.

I know of a young man who talks negatively about everyone and everything. He is bitter against everyone. As far he is concerned, everyone conspired to hate him. He is angry against those that he thinks should help him but fail to do so. He is over fifty years now, but not yet married.

When you are in such situations of delay, temptations, confrontations, and delayed expectations, succumbing to bitterness becomes a major temptation.

They are people who are angry with God. Job was a good example. He came to a point where he was angry with God.

In Job 7:11, Job said,
Therefore I will refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Job was challenging God because of the challenges that engulfed him at the time.

My counsel: no matter what you pass through in life, don’t get angry with God. Satan may make you point accusing fingers against God because of your challenge. Overcome that temptation. Your challenges are your passing ground to your breakthrough. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

Remember this: One major root of bitterness is frustration from confrontations, temptations or delayed expectation.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. No matter what you pass through, refuse the temptation of being bitter against God.
  2. See the faithfulness of God in your temporary challenges and give Him praise.

PRAYER: Lord, I reject any form of bitterness that may arise as a result of delayed expectations in my life. Strengthen my faith in You in all circumstances of life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
