SCRIPTURE: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Genesis 3:6.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: There is nothing wrong with having a will; but everything is wrong when your will clashes with the Will of God.
The craving for self-assertion is one critical root of character failure.
Now, what does the craving for self-assertion mean? It means the craving for the enforcement of personal will. It is having a mind-set of, “What I want is what I will have.” It is a situation when you come to the point of being a law to yourself.
Genesis 3:6 says,
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
This is self-assertion!
There is nothing wrong with having a will; but everything is wrong when your will clashes with the Will of God. There is nothing wrong with wanting something, but something is wrong when what you want clashes with what God wants.
One of the most dangerous things that can happen to anyone is to become a law to oneself. Whenever you come to a point where you say, “Nobody can tell me how to live my life; nobody can tell me what to do with my life; I can do whatever I want with my life,” you have reached a dangerous point in your life.
This is common among young people. They tell themselves, “I am mature enough to take decision for myself. I am mature enough to know what I want for my life.” And most times, the things they want for their lives are disastrous to their destiny.
You know, the difference between a father and a child, is that the father has been a child before, but the child has never been a father before. The elderly person has been a young person before, but the young person has never been an elderly person before.
So, it is not possible for the young person to know what the elder knows.
Therefore, if you are still young, make up your mind to sit and learn.
Remember this: There is nothing wrong with having a will; but everything is wrong when your will clashes with the Will of God.
