SCRIPTURE: And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
Numbers 11:4-5.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you do not deal with the lust in you, it would take you back to your “Egypt.”
In our previous study, we saw the story of how the children of Israel left Egypt, but “Egypt” did not leave them; they had been delivered physically from Egypt, yet, Egypt lived in them because their minds were not renewed. This means, it is possible to be bound by what you were saved from if your mind is not renewed.
Our anchor Scripture reveals that one thing that showed that Egypt was still in the children of Israel was the lust in their hearts.
Numbers 11:4 says:
And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
You see, the children of Israel were lusting after the foods of Egypt. This lust in them was so strong that they began to cry for the foods they once ate while in Egypt.
Look at what they said in Numbers 11:5:
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
Can you see what they were longing and lusting for? The question is, how could someone long for cucumbers, melons, onions, and even garlic? How could someone reasonably long for garlic that will set one’s mouth on fire?
Unfortunately, these were the things they were longing for whereas God gave them manna every day. Their lust for the food of Egypt made them turn their hearts on the manna which God graciously provided for them.
Their lust reminded them of Egypt. Their lust connected their minds to Egypt even though their bodies had left Egypt.
The lesson here is, lust in the life of a believer only reminds him of, and connects him to his “Egypt” (sins).
Beloved, if you do not deal with the lust in you, it will take you back to your “Egypt.” That will not be your portion in Jesus’ Name.
