SCRIPTURE: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Faith is not acting blindly, hoping that something works out. Faith is not a blind action.
Many people do not understand faith, and so they call faith what it is not. For example, faith is not acting blindly hoping that something works out. Faith is not a blind action.
Now, I will illustrate what faith is not with a story I heard many years ago.
Sometime ago, someone walked into a zoo in Ibadan, Western Nigeria, and jumped into a lions’ cage with the belief that he was the present day Daniel. He believed that since they put Daniel in the lions’ den in Bible days and the lions did not devour him, if he entered the lions’ den, the lions should fellowship with him instead of devouring him.
When this man entered the lions’ cage, the lions might have wondered, “What did we do for God to give us this kind of free food today!”
The lions wasted no time. They jumped on him and tore him into pieces. The man did not come out alive. He died.
That was not faith. That was a combination of foolishness and presumption. I call it ignoramus stupiditis (An affliction caused by ignorance and stupidity). Such ‘faith’ is based on nothing.
Some people would say, “I have faith.” And to confirm it, they say, “Give me acid to drink. I will not die.” That is stupidity. If they drink such acid, they will die.
When the devil asked Jesus to throw himself down from a height, he did not obey the devil; he refused (Matthew 4:5-6).
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Jesus seemed to say, “Satan, I am not to receive instructions from you; you are not to tell me what to do. You are not my commander.”
The lesson here is: do not do what is not faith. Do not practice faith blindly.
REMEMBER THIS: Faith is not acting blindly hoping that something works out. Faith is not a blind action.
